GP surgeries north of Cambridge join Covid-19 vaccinations programme

Posted on January 30th, 2021

GP practices in Over, Swavesey, Willingham, Histon, Bar Hill, Milton, Cottenham and Waterbeach  started to deliver Covid-19 vaccinations to local residents aged over 80 from week commencing 18 January 2021, as the roll out of the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history gains further momentum.

Practices across these villages are now inviting their patients in the priority groups to receive the Covid-19 vaccine as part of the latest phase of the vaccine roll-out. This includes starting to vaccinate care home residents and staff. Practices starting are:

  • Cottenham Surgery, Cottenham,
  • Firs House Medical Partnership- Histon and Cottenham
  • Maple Surgery, Bar Hill
  • Milton Surgery, Milton
  • Over Surgery, Over
  • Swavesey Surgery, Swavesey
  • Waterbeach Surgery, Waterbeach
  • Willingham Medical Practice, Willingham

Eligible patients will be contacted direct to book an appointment.  There are two dedicated vaccination hubs in Over and Milton which means some patients will have to visit a different practice to their usual one to receive their vaccination. Full details will be given to patients when contacted.

Dr Simon Poole and Dr Craig Needs, Clinical Directors of Cambridge Northern Villages PCN said, “As local GPs we are so proud of the huge effort made by everyone involved to support the biggest national immunisation campaign in history. Everyone at the GP practices involved has had a part to play, and we simply could not have done it without such a fantastic team effort.

“Protecting our most vulnerable local residents against Covid-19 is so important to us all and we encourage local residents to take this opportunity up when they’re contacted.

“Please do not call the GP practice to book, we will contact you. When you attend your appointment, you will need to follow social distancing guidance, bring and wear a face masks or visor, and follow hand hygiene guidance. These steps help to save lives.”

GP sites providing jabs will be spread across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, more will join on a phased basis.

The latest phase of the vaccine roll-out is being co-ordinated by GP-led Primary Care Networks (PCNs) with more practices and community pharmacies in other parts of England joining on a phased basis during the New Year.
